Children and Families
I believe that all children should have the opportunity for an equal start in life. Too many children in our district, our state, and our country face nearly insurmountable barriers to their future success and productivity. These barriers could be reduced or eliminated if our government, at all levels, would recognize the value of investing in our children.
I support investing in our children as a Pro-Life policy. As a Pro-Life Democrat, I not only support bringing life into this world, but I value and will defend the quality of each life. All children deserve an equal opportunity to have a healthy and happy childhood and to grow up to be successful and productive adults.
I support investing in our children as an economic policy. Investments in our children now will pay off in higher earning potential and less dependence on public support as adults. The idea is simple: the strength and quality of investment in children will be returned when they contribute more to their own support and the strength of the economy as adults.
We must make sensible use of scarce federal resources to ensure that our children are well-equipped to learn more, earn more, achieve more and build the foundation for future American progress. Investments that I believe are particularly important to that end are quality educational experiences, particularly through the development of a solid foundation in early childhood education, and the accessibility of affordable health care. I believe that a nation which fails to invest in its children fails to support its future. We must reduce barriers to opportunity for all children and equip them with the tools to create a better, stronger America for tomorrow.
